Dr. Catherine McBride-Chang

Advisor, Child Psychology

Dr. Catherine McBride-Chang joined Edukey in the fall of 2006 as Advisor, Child Psychology. In her role, she oversees and validates the selection of all course content, ensuring the latest child development theories and best practices are applied in Edukey’s parenting curriculum.

Dr. McBride-Chang is a professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including those on child development, adolescent and adult development, and problem-solving. She received her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Southern California.

The author of over 70 peer-reviewed articles on various aspects of developmental psychology, she focuses her research primarily on reading development and parenting in children across cultures.

She is an Associate Editor of “Developmental Psychology” and currently serves on the editorial boards of the “Journal of Experimental Child Psychology”, “Scientific Studies of Reading”, “Reading Research Quarterly”, “Annals of Dyslexia” and “Journal of Educational Psychology”.

She also has published two books on children’s reading development, Reading Development in Chinese Children (2003, Praeger) and Children’s Literacy Development (2004, Oxford University Press).

Perhaps her richest source of knowledge on children’s development comes from
being the mother of her own two children, one boy (in secondary school) and
one girl (in primary school). From these experiences and her research, she
has learned a fair amount about various aspects of parenting, including
goals, styles, and practices across cultures.
