Dr. Spock: The Next Generation
For today’s parents who have probably never heard of baby expert Dr. Benjamin Spock, medical and parenting advice is just a mouse-click away.
The Encyclopedia on Early Childhood Development launched in Montreal yesterday is the first online, virtual encyclopedia on childhood development and health, from conception to 5 years of age.
Everything from aggression and crying behavior and stress is covered, said Universite de Montreal professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and psychology, Richard Tremblay, the encyclopedia’s creator.
It aims to inform parents, educators, health professionals and policy-makers on critical issues…
“The aim is to find the best knowledge there is anywhere in the world, so the content isn’t specifically Canadian,” Tremblay noted.
The encyclopedia has already logged 2 million visitors, “hidden” or included on the Canadian Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development website.
But now it has its own site: www.child-encyclopedia.com.
It’s free and available in two languages, English and French, is currently being translated into Spanish.
The one thing parents won’t find is a dogmatic approach to a subject, Tremblay said…
“When the experts don’t agree, we show the evidence for and against and you have to make your own decision what to do about this.” …
